The information is important for product determination and quality control
As one of the ingredients, PEG is found in hair shampoos, body lotions, shower gels, lipsticks, shaving foams, makeup removers, moisturizing creams, hand and foot care creams, colored cosmetics and many other products for daily use. If we analyze the composition of these products, we will see that many of them also contain two or more of their other derivatives in addition to polyethylene glycol. Most common PEG used in cosmetics When choosing cosmetics and care products we must know their composition and be aware of what we are buying. It is important to know what PEG is and what it is for. Below we present three example compounds from the broad PEG family. Despite their similar chemical structure, they often have different roles as ingredients and therefore materially affect the quality of the products they comprise. Apart from many PEGs, in cosmetics we can often find substances such as Hydrogenated Castor Oil PEG -10, PEG Oleate -20 or PEG Stearate -100.
Hydrogenated Castor Oil PEG-10 is a popular emulsifier in O/W emulsions. Hydrogenated castor oil , as the name suggests, is a derivative of castor oil. It is contained in products such as creams, milks or balms. PEG Oleate -20, in addition to being an emulsifier, also acts as a rheology controller in washing products (increases their viscosity). It is also a solubilizer , an ingredient that facilitates the introduction of insolubleCZ Leadsor poorly soluble substances in the aqueous solutions to which they are added, such as plant extracts or fatty substances. Stearate PEG -100 is an example of a surfactant that, like the substances mentioned above, is an emulsifier in O/W emulsions but also a foaming agent that facilitates the production of high and stable foams. It is often used in hair shampoos or shower gels. Safe or not? The harmful effect of polyethylene glycol and its derivatives is a popular topic. The main problem with PEGs is that they are produced with the use of ethylene oxide in the process called "ethoxylation." This can cause contamination of the product with that compound, as well as with 1,4-dioxane, which is carcinogenic. However, this does not occur in practice, and the toxicological profile of substances classified as PEG is well known. PEGs are non-toxic and do not show toxic or mutagenic effects. Its application in cosmetic products is safe for consumers.

PEGs have also been tested for use in dermatology: they do not irritate or cause allergic reactions on the skin. Hydroxyacetic acid, designed for professional use, is globally recognized as a substitute for many other artificially produced acids. Industrial plants use C 2 H 4 O 3 , for example, instead of hydrochloric acid which, once used, becomes a highly poisonous and dangerous waste. Biodegradable glycolic acids: opinions and benefits Many manufacturers believe that glycolic acid powder, derived from natural sources, is an excellent alternative to harsh chemicals. The substance has a very wide range of application; When used in appropriate proportions and conditions, it is not harmful to humans or the environment. Additionally, biodegradable glycolic acid for the face, or a cleansing liquid containing that ingredient, does not increase the amount of toxic residue. They are only made from raw materials of natural origin, which quickly decompose under the influence of microorganisms. Plant waste left after production can be converted, for example, into compost without taking up any additional landfill space.
